Ways to Make Your Lash Extensions Last Longer

Ways to Make Your Lash Extensions Last Longer

Published on 8-31-2020

If you are just as obsessed with your lash extensions as we are, no doubt your next thought after you leave our salon is “how do I make sure that my extensions last as long as possible?” We hear you! (girl.)(That is why today) We want to share with you some of our tried and true methods for making sure your lashes go the extra mile.

1. Keep Them Dry

For your lashes to get the best bond possible, you will want to avoid getting them wet for the first 12-24 hours. This will give the adhesive time to fully set and adhere to your lash line. In addition to this, we also recommend that you avoid steamy atmospheres for the first 48 hours. This would include things like, saunas, hot yoga sessions, and tanning beds.

2. Sleep on Your Back

Many health professionals recommend sleeping on your back to reduce pressure on your shoulders and spine but sleeping on your back is also good for your lashes! (recommended by us!) Sleeping on your side is also fine if that is most comfortable for you. The main point is to avoid sleeping on your face and lashes. If you do sleep on your side, the main objective is to keep from smashing your lashes into your pillow as this can dislodge or kink the extensions.

3. Clean and Brush Them

For your lashes to last, it is crucial that you clean and brush them daily. Make sure to wash your lashes (wash them and your face) even if you have not been wearing makeup. When cleaning them it is also important to use an oil-free cleanser such as (like) our Lashology Foaming Cleanser. This is because Oil will break down the lash adhesive very rapidly and cause your extensions to fall out faster than they should. (The exact opposite of) Not what we want! When cleansing, avoid pulling or tugging at all costs. Gently use your fingertips or a lash-cleansing brush to get the job done.

Along with oils, be wary of salt build up around your lash line as well, since this will also hasten the degradation of the adhesive. After a good cry from a heart wrenching movie, or after a powerful sweat session you will want to wash those (your) lashes. (as well.)
In addition to keeping your lashes clean, you will also want to lightly brush them with a clean mascara wand every morning. This way, any lashes that got tangled or sideways while you slept can be combed and fluffed for a perfectly flirty look.

4. Being Gentle is Key

The less you mess with your lashes, the better! Avoid tugging, rubbing, or plucking them. Also avoid eyelash curlers as they will weaken the extensions and cause breakage. at all costs. Of course, you are a human and not a robot. Therefore, you are bound to get an itch around your eyes eventually. We get it. In the event of an itch, try to make it a habit to run a brush through your lashes instead of rubbing them. If you do get a loose lash, avoid the urge to pull it off. Your extensions are bonded to your natural lashes with very strong glue and pulling them off may also pull out your natural lash. If you need your lashes removed, please make an appointment with a professional to have that done. Keep those natural lashes safe!

5. Use Lash Sealant

Lash extensions are an investment in you. Probably the number one way to make that investment last is to purchase a lash sealant. Using a lash sealant in between fills will greatly enhance the longevity of your extensions.

5. Avoid Waterproof Mascara

We suggest that you avoid using mascara, as now you have long gorgeous dark lashes that speak for themselves. However, if you do feel like you still want to use mascara, avoid waterproof mascara which is hard to remove and puts extra stress on your lashes. Look for mascaras that are safe for extensions.

6. Schedule Regular Fills

Your natural lashes shed daily and the extensions will shed right along with them. To keep your lashes looking fabulous you will need regular fills, about every two weeks.

Lashology wants you to look and feel your best. We hope you find these tips useful! Do not forget to call and make an appointment for your next lash refill. We look forward to seeing you and helping your lashes look their very best!
