Lash extensions are an investment! A worthy investment in yourself, but they do require time and money to maintain. So, it is understandable that you would want to take care of them and make them last as long as possible. One misconception that surrounds eyelash extensions, however, is that they are not compatible with showers. This simply is not true, but there are some considerations you should take when showering with lash extensions, and that is what we are going to discuss today.
While we use powerful, yet gentle adhesives to place your extensions, there are a few common ingredients that threaten their strength. Oil and alcohol-based products to be specific. So take a moment and review the ingredients of the products that may come into contact with your extensions. If you can keep these culprits from mingling with your lash extensions, you can get more life out of them.
Another threat to your lash bond is agitation. We know that many enjoy letting warm, refreshing water run over their faces, but you may want to give attention to just how powerful that stream of water is. If it is too strong, it can compromise the bond between your lashes and the adhesive. If you do not want to give up that waterfall feeling, you may want to consider adjusting your shower head to a softer stream instead.
Like we mentioned, agitating your lash line can severely reduce the lifespan of your extensions. So, you definitely want to avoid rubbing your eyes while showering, or anytime really. Plus, excessive rubbing or tugging on your eyes can lead to the onset of wrinkles, and who wants that?
After getting out of the shower you can gently pat them dry with a towel and let them air dry. You can also gently dry and shape your lashes with a hairdryer on the lowest setting. Hold the dryer below your face, at least 10 inches or so, and gently coax your lashes with your index finger up into their curled state until they are dry.
Ultimately, getting eyelash extensions is a way to add to your self-care, not take away from it. Because we use high-quality adhesives when placing your extensions, you can still enjoy pool time, spa time, and shower time. Just be careful for the first 48 hours after your appointment to allow the bond to hold and follow our advice here. For even more guidance on lash care, visit our aftercare page here on our site.
