How to Remove Eyelash Extensions on your Own?

Published on 6-22-2022

It’s been a few weeks since your last lash appointment and you are too busy in the upcoming weeks to schedule a refill. Your lashes are starting to grow out and most of them have fallen off already. You are left with your lash line looking pretty sparse. The difference between your natural lashes and your extensions is becoming more evident. What can you do? Can you just remove the last of your lash extensions on your own?

At our salon, we use professional-grade solvents to break down the adhesive on your extensions. Our lash artists are trained and experienced in how to use these products properly, without causing damage to your lashes or irritation to your eye. And while there are some at-home kits that you can find, we do not recommend using them because there is a greater area for error. It is difficult to do any treatment on yourself at home, and it can be incredibly dangerous to use chemicals on yourself, especially so close to a delicate part of your body, such as your eye. The last thing we would want to happen is for you to wind up in the emergency room with chemical burns.

Are there any options for eyelash removal that are safe? As you know, your extensions will naturally fall out over time, but there are some things you can do to speed along the process. One method is facial steaming. Or you can simply place a hot towelette over your eyes. The steam will work to break down the lash adhesive. Additionally, rubbing a bit of facial oil on your lash line can have a similar effect. Just be extra careful to not get the oils into your eye. Regularly brushing your lashes will also help to gently loosen them. As you are waiting for them to all fallout, you can use mascara to hide any gaps. Never attempt to pull off your extensions, as this will also pull out the natural lash and cause damage.

We hope you found this helpful! We understand that sometimes busy schedules can prevent our clients from coming to see us regularly, but we hope to see you as soon as it clears up.
