If you are just entering the world of lash extensions, it’s easy to get lost in all the different terms you may come across. One thing that stumps many of our first-time clients is understanding the difference between extension materials. Here you can find a breakdown of the differences between mink and faux-mink lash extensions.
Real Mink
Mink lash extensions are made from real mink hair. Some prefer these lashes because they feel that they look the most natural and have the softest feel. To achieve a curled and lifted look, these lashes are permed before application. Because of this, they will relax and lose their perkiness as time goes on. These lashes are more of a luxury item and that is generally reflected in the price point.
If you have animal allergies or are conscientious about consuming cruelty-free products, real mink fur lashes may not be the best fit for you.
Faux-Mink
Typically in the lash extension community, when people refer to mink lashes they are referring to faux-mink lashes. These lashes are man-made fibers that are made to resemble real fur lashes without any of the downsides. Unlike fur lashes, faux-mink lashes hold their curl from the time of application to the time they fall out naturally. Although not quite as much as real mink lashes, these lashes are still very fine and soft. These lashes can offer more long-term volume and can last for many weeks.
At Lashology, we only use the highest quality synthetic mink lashes. We believe they are able to achieve a variety of desired looks and offer the best value in terms of quality and longevity.
